Eyam : The Michelin guide review

Stricken by the plague in the autumn of 1665, this village chose to cut itself off from the outside world in self-imposed quarantine. By the time the disease had run its course twelve months later, only a quarter of its inhabitants emerged alive. A modest manor house in the village called Eyam Hall is still lived in by the Wright family, who built it in 1671. It houses fine furniture and an interesting country gentleman's library compiled over the centuries.
