Set in its Close, an island of calm amid the city traffic and surrounded by buildings from many periods, the west front of the cathedral rises through tier upon tier of sculpted angels, bishops and monarchs, through flamboyant Decorated tracery to its crenellated parapets. The greater part of the building was remodelled and improved in the 13C.
