Travel guide Exeter
Exeter
: The Michelin guide review
Exeter is well located at the head of the navigable waters of the River Exe and proud of its long history (many traces of which were erased by German bombing). In the Middle Ages, Exeter was a great wool trade centre and some of the old houses of that period have been restored in the city centre. Exeter owes its charm to its crescents and terraces, plus its grey stone cathedral, which contrasts with the city’s red sandstone churches and ramparts, as well as its red brick Georgian houses.
