Travel guide Dover
Dover : The Michelin guide review
Flanked by the famous white cliffs, Dover has been England’s gateway since Roman times. Ferries, hovercraft and hydrofoils operate from here, reflecting the fact that the opening of the Channel Tunnel had only a marginal effect on the port’s cross-channel activity. Dover was the Kentish town most affected by German shells and bombs incoming from the French coast. The reconstruction efforts undertaken after the war, however, revealed the archaeological importance of the ancient port.
