Coventry
: The Michelin guide review
Coventry's history dates back to Saxon times. In 1043, Leofric, Earl of Mercia, founded a Benedictine Priory here. According to folklore, he only relieved the town's citizens from the burdensome taxes he had imposed after his wife, Lady Godiva, had ridden naked through the streets in order to persuade him to do so. The priory later became a cathedral and the episode a legend.
