The famous zoo (opened in 1836) features a large selection of animals - ranging from gorillas in a recreation of their natural habitat to insects. The various houses were designed by architects (the Reptile and Ape Houses in particular). Interactive activities, such as matching their skills against those of the animals, are provided for children.
