Chichester
: The Michelin guide review
At the foot of the South Downs and near the sea, Chichester is dominated by its cathedral spire; the town and its surroundings represent a quintessentially English landscape. Its streets running off the Market Cross (1501) still conform to their Roman plan. The city's main architectural style is Georgian, as Chichester enjoyed its golden age in the 18C. The 20C is represented by Powell and Moya's hexagonal Chichester Festival Theatre, built in 1962.
