Alnwick star : The Michelin guide review

This charming grey-stone town is clustered around its great medieval castle, the stern walls of which still seem to bar the route from Scotland. Though its plan dates back to the Middle Ages, the town's sober and harmonious appearance and most of the fine stone buildings date from the 18C. There are many reminders of the Percy family's dominating presence; their emblem, a lion, stands over the bridge crossing the Aln to the North, as well as the great Tenantry Column to the South.
