Travel guide Wismar
Wismar
: The Michelin guide review
Wismar was founded in 1226 and prospered greatly as a Hanseatic city. Brewing - Wismar was known for its excellent beer - and wool weaving constituted further sources of income. The Thirty Years War brought about the downfall of the city. The Treaty of Westphalia placed the town in Swedish hands, in which it remained until 1803. The town enjoyed an economic revival in the 19C with the establishment of factories and the development of sea trade.
