Staatsgalerie : The Michelin guide review

This gallery was established from 1838-43 by William I of Wurtemberg. The older building is dedicated to painting from the Middle Ages to the Impressionist period. Of particular interest is the Old Masters’ section, with masterpieces such as the Altar of Herrenburg by Jerg Ratgeb (1519). The museum boasts an excellent collection of 14C Florentine and Venetian art, while Dutch art is represented by Hans Memling, Rembrandt and Rubens. The annexe houses modern art including twelve works by Picasso.
