Schwetzingen Palace Gardens star : The Michelin guide review

Laid out between 1758 and 1796 by the architect Nicolas de Pigage from Lorraine, these 72-ha gardens combine the formal perspective of French gardens with the more relaxed style of the 18C, a time when natural landscapes and artificial monuments such as ruins and temples became fashionable. The main line of perspective begins with a graceful semicircle of outbuildings and a large round flowerbed adorned with fountains.
