Castle : The Michelin guide review

At the beginning of the 17C the old fortress was replaced by a Renaissance-style castle which was demolished in 1738 to make way for the Baroque castle designed by F.G. Stengel. Wars and reconstruction work left such deep marks that reconstruction was necessary in 1982 and the new design was entrusted to Gottfried Böhm. Today it houses the Saar regional museum of history. Its permanent exhibition covers the development of National Socialism in the Saar and continues through the post-war era until the Saar became part of Germany.
