Saarbrücken : The Michelin guide review
The capital of the Saarland was first mentioned in record books in AD 999, although it dates back to Celtic and Roman times. The Romans built a small town at the intersection of two roads, Metz-Worms and Trier-Strasbourg, and erected a stone bridge that served until medieval times. The industrialisation of the Saarland in the 19 C saw the start of a new economic era. Although WWII left its mark, the city with the silhouette of a baroque princely residence developped into a regional metropolis.
