New Art Gallery : The Michelin guide review

The post-modernist Neue Pinakothek is the work of Alexander von Brancas (1981). Built in sandstone, the museum houses masterpieces from the early 19C (Gainsborough, Turner and Goya) to the early 20C (Klimt and Schiele). The different schools exhibited here include 19C German art (Stieler, Richter, von Schwind); Romanticism and Realism (Géricault, Delacroix, Courbet, von Marées, Feuerbach); Impressionism, Post-Impression and Symbolism (Van Gogh, Gauguin, Manet, Degas, Cézanne); and Art Nouveau.
