The cathedral of Magdeburg (early 13C) was the first attempt to bring the Gothic style of the great French cathedrals to Germany. Outside, the Paradise Doorway displays statues of the Wise and Foolish Virgins. Also see the chapel of the fountains. Inside, the church is rich in sculptures: statues of St Maurice, Christ and the Church, funerary plaques and the bronze tomb of Archbishop Ernst.
