The imposing building, erected from 1726, the Church of Our Lady, is said to be the church most representative of sacred Protestant architecture. Its dome with a diameter of 23.5 m and weighing 5,800 tons, considered to be the emblem of the city, was destroyed by the bombings of February 1945. Only 10% of the church remained intact. Until Reunification the ruins of the church symbolised the destruction of the city by the Allies. Reconstruction began only in 1993.
