Dessau : The Michelin guide review
The town's strategic situation at the crossroads of several major trading routes contributed to its expansion from the Middle Ages. It acquired an international reputation in the 20C thanks to Hugo Junkers, the inventor of gas engines and heaters as well as the first all-metal airplane. Its is however better known as the seat of the Bauhaus School of Architecture and many of the town's buildings date from the 1920s. In 1966, these were included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
