Once known as Stalinallee, this immense 2.3km-long thoroughfare is influenced by the “confectioner” style typical of buildings in Moscow. Designed as a contrast to the “capitalist” architecture of the West and to Unter den Linden boulevard, this avenue has seen three distinct phases of construction, inspired by the Bauhaus period and then by the Stalinist model. Stop off at the Café Sybille to learn all about the history of Karl-Marx-Allee.
