Place du Marché : The Michelin guide review

At the heart of Old Nimes, a stone's throw from the Amphitheatre, are the two symbols of the town - a bronze crocodile sitting on a fountain (by Martial Raysse) and a palm tree (a real one!). This is a square bustling with many café terraces, standing as it does at the end of several shopping and pedestrianised streets (rue de l'Aspic, rue Régale, rue des Greffes). On the paved ground, notice the “Nail of Nimes”, a take on the town emblem as seen by designer Philippe Stark.
