A vast square lined on one side by the columns of the Palais de Justice (law courts) and café terraces and opening onto the smart Avenue Feuchères towards the station. At its centre, the statue, erected in 1848, is the work of James Pradier. The model was supposedly Juliette Drouet, the sculptor's lover before becoming involved with Victor Hugo.
