L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
: The Michelin guide review
A short stroll and you will understand why this little town surrounded by water is named "Isle". The Occitan word "Sorga", meanwhile, denotes an abundant spring, an apt name for this river that rises from the fountain of Vaucluse. The branches of the Sorgue, little bridges and paddle wheels lend the town a cheerful look, and it is particularly enjoyable to hunt for bargains at the weekend, when the area is taken over by antique dealers. The Maison René-Char, a 18C private mansion with one floor dedicated to the great poet, is also worth a visit.
