Travel guide Alès
Alès : The Michelin guide review
In the centre of a mining and silkworm region, Alès is a town of the Cévennes, set in a place where the mountain runs into the wine growing plane. The modernisation in the Fifties was a little excessive and it has made the old workers' town a place without any particular beauty in spite of the River Gardon that crosses it. It was the birthplace of the doctor Louis Leprince-Ringuet (1901-2001). Nevertheless as pleasant as it is animated, it gives increasing importance to Cultural shows.
