The bohemia of Montparnasse gave birth to the legend of this quarter when artists and writers established themselves there from 1900. Jarry was joined by Apollinaire, Max Jacob, Paul Fort. Later, Modigliani, Zadkine, Chagall, Cendrars, Breton, and a great deal more... It's the golden age of the Ecole de Paris and Carrefour Vavin became «God's gift to mankind». The 1960s saw an immense town planning operation, with the birth of the Montparnasse Tower which transformed the district.
