This cemetery is the largest in Paris. The uneven ground and the abundant willows, maples and cypress mitigate the funerary character of the place. The celebrities buried here give a visit a certain air of a pilgrimage: Musset, Chopin, Cherubini, Géricault, David, Champollion, Corot, Beaumarchais, Modigliani, Wilde, Proust, Apollinaire, Nerval, Delacroix, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison. The last combatants of the Commune were executed by firing squad in front of the Mur des Fédérés.
