Église St-Julien-le-Pauvre star : The Michelin guide review

Contemporary to Notre-Dame cathedral (1165-1220), this church is dedicated to St Julian the Confessor, the bishop of Le Mans, nicknamed “le Pauvre” (the Poor) because of his constant charity to others. The church was modified on several occasions in the 17C. The choir, the most attractive part of the building, is screened off by a wooden iconostasis. Note the capitals on the two pillars, carved with acanthus leaves and harpies.
