This is the city’s first municipal museum, founded in 1846 by two local naturalists Jean-Baptiste Vérany and Jean-Baptiste Barla. Its storerooms contain over one million specimens (zoology, botany and geology) originating mainly from the Mediterranean, but also South America, Africa and Madagascar. It is currently showing an exhibition on cephalopods (octopuses, squid, nautili etc).
