Travel guide La Seyne-sur-Mer
La Seyne-sur-Mer : The Michelin guide review
La Seyne was a great naval shipyard in the 19C, and has since been transformed into a marina with mussel beds and schooners at anchor. Although it seems innocuous, the place is of historical significance. It was here that Bonaparte earned his general's stripes in 1793 by chasing out the English who were entrenched in Balaguier fort. Today this same fort houses a pretty Marine Museum that brings to life the dark history of the penal colony of Toulon (that of Jean Valjean).
