Travel guide Brantôme
Brantôme
: The Michelin guide review
Brantôme, attractively situated on the banks of the Dronne, boasts an eclectic mix of Romanesque and Renaissance architecture. The abbots overseeing its abbey included Pierre de Bourdeilles, a former chamberlain to Charles IX in the 16C. This chronicler, better known as Brantôme, came here to find the peace and tranquillity he needed to write his famous Vies des hommes illustres et des grands capitaines (Lives of Illustrious Men and Great Leaders).
