Cathedral of St Étienne : The Michelin guide review

A Gothic masterpiece begun in 1195 and consecrated in 1324; the immense west front has 5 portals (the central of which depicts the Last Judgement), leading into a nave and four aisles. The windows (12C-17C) are among France’s finest, and the crypt is superb. A copy of the 1424 astronomical clock was installed in 1994. 396 steps lead to the top of the north tower, from where there is a fine view over the cathedral and the town. Acquired Unesco World Heritage site status in 1992.

les très nombreux vitraux d'une splendeur remarquable que l'on peut admirer sans avoir besoin de jumelles

Cons

la crypte, payante et sans intérêt (restes du jubé et du gisant du duc de Berry) triste présentation et visite guidée obligatoire à horaire fixe
