Travel guide Quimperlé
Quimperlé
: The Michelin guide review
To the north of the Carnoët Forest which flanks the River Laïta, Quimperlé (the name means “at the confluence of the River Ellé”) has a waterfront still redolent of its historic port, today used by pleasure craft. The town has the fine Romanesque church of Ste Croix and several medieval houses, notably in rue Dom-Morice. Quimperlé is the ideal base from to discover accessible forests and the nearby coastline.

The remnant of a «mast pit» from 1826? That's what they think today: the wood intended for naval building at that time was covered in mud in order to be protected from rotting. Whatever, this field of blackish posts is particularly impressive when ex..

L'Art Gourmand
14 pl. de la Maison-des-Princes F - 56620 Pont-Scorff
This small restaurant combines simplicity and a good eye for detail - no mean feat! Roast hake with a mixed spice sauce, poached pears, mulled wine and almond sponge biscuits are just a few of the dishes on offer.
-
Not far from the port, the dining room is characterised by simple minimalist design and a certain intimacy. The well-prepared food takes its inspiration from the sea (fresh cod with aioli, Clementine tartlets).
-
On the bridge spanning the Aven. This fashionable bistro proposes an attractive menu and a wide range of unusual fish dishes. It was also the site of the 'Les Galettes de Pont-Aven', a French film starring J-P Marielle.
-
Enjoy tasty, fresh and unpretentious cuisine prepared in this restaurant run by two brothers. It has the resolutely lounge-style atmosphere of the Grand Théâtre.
-
Restaurant facing the sea serving seafood cuisine (of course!). Guests' toes are almost lapped by the water while the chef employs extremely fresh fish and seafood (and other) ingredients. The children's menu is a delight for mini-gourmets.
-
Fish and shellfish are the stars of the show - freshly fished and cooked to perfection. Start with the langoustines, then try the turbot with mousseline sauce, lobster or the Ribot cream dessert. It doesn't get much more Breton than this!
