Château de Josselin : The Michelin guide review

On the west side of this fortress, its four towers and their machicolations, its windows and its skylights tower over the walls, once part of the palace built in 16C by Jean II. Today, only the foundations remain of the original walls of the château built on a terrace. But from the Pont de Ste-Croix (bridge), there is a view of the "prison-tower" and the façade of the main building. This facade is unique in Brittany due to its granite sculptures. Only the ground floor, restored in the 19C is open to visitors.

Guided tours (45min): mid-Jul through Aug: daily 10am-6pm; Jun to mid-Jul and Sep: daily 2-6pm; Apr-May and Oct: Sat-Sun, public and school holidays, 2-6pm.

Nice grounds

Cons

Inside can only be seen on a tour. English tours only in high season. Tours can be very busy. There were 50 in our group which was much too big and meant it was difficult to see the rooms properly. Only 5 rooms visited. Much overrated. No photos allowed in the chateau (although dogs and ice creams were allowed). Expensive. Admire and take photos from the bridge.
