Between St Amboise and Aubenas, Vallon is not only famous for its bridge, the Pont-d'Arc, situated not far away, but also for Chauvet's cave, one of the world's richest prehistoric caves, on a par with Lascaux. Discovered in 1994, it is now the village's pride and joy. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public. Vallon is a pleasant place to stay and an ideal starting point for magnificent canoe/kayak trips into the Ardèche gorges.
