Travel guide Rheims
Rheims
: The Michelin guide review
Artistic city, site of coronations, seat of a university, Reims is famous for its cathedral and basilica of St Rémi. It is also the joint capital of Champagne (along with Épernay). Bounded by a belt of boulevards laid out in the 18C, the town (largely destroyed in 1914) has extensive outlying districts which sometimes border the vineyards. Today its liveliest areas are along the rue de Vesle and most notably on the long place Drouet-d'Erlon.

Restaurants Rheims
-
This elegant contemporary bistro is pleasantly low-key. The food is, naturally enough, traditional bistro fare, jazzed up with international influences. It is well accompanied by a fine selection of champagne wines.
-
Greenery and flowers galore! Lawn-style flooring, floral walls and the veranda give a bucolic atmosphere. Menu alters depending on market availability.
-
This gourmet restaurant was opened in 2010. Pleasantly plush, it is popular for its classic culinary repertory with a modern twist (squid carbonara, Grand Marnier soufflé...).
-
The restaurant stands by the Promenades, which are 18C shaded courtyards. The interior, both classic and contemporary, is ideally matched to the chef's inventive culinary repertory. Premium produce takes pride of place (lobster, fish).
-
Brasserie lovers appreciate the Art Deco inspired interior (period mosaic floor), chandeliers and lovely woodwork. In summertime, tuck into beef tartare, sautéed foie gras and rum baba on the terrace.
-
The façade of this restaurant not far from the place Royale is full of character. Delicious, thoroughly modern cuisine from a partnership of two chefs.
-
This restaurant's specialities include: crayfish pan-fried in champagne, squab with foie gras, veal sweetbreads à la bourgeoise and grilled meats prepared in the restaurant itself, on the open fire. What's more, since the place was overhauled in 2010..
-
An institution since 1925! The jovial atmosphere and Art Deco decor goes beautifully well with cuisine based on fresh products that are simply prepared. Try herrings and potatoes, steak tartare, or even rum baba.
