Museo Municipal del Fuerte Matachín : The Michelin guide review

Located in the old Fort Matachín, this museum provides the ideal opportunity to learn more about Baracoa. Among other topics, it traces the history of the Taïnos Indians, a pre-Columbian people who settled here two centuries before the Spanish. It also recounts the legend of “Pelú”, and the misery this bushy-beaded vagabond inflicted on the town in the late 19C, ever since when this character has been the embodiment of all the calamities experienced by Baracoa and her inhabitants.
