As the town's most significant and most dangerous threat came from inland, the fortifications built facing inland are thicker and more elaborate in design than those overlooking the sea (an oblique fore-wall built against cannon fire and a defensive ditch). Today they command the most interesting view of the walled town, particularly from the terrace of the enormous Minceta tower (tvrdava Minceta) (14C/15C), whose crenels and machicolations cannot be missed. The strategic point of the defensive system commands a view over the entire city.
