This fort, built by the British at the end of the 18C when they had abandoned Detroit to the Americans, occupies a fine site overlooking the seaway. Some ramparts remain, now grass-covered, and a barracks has been restored to its 1819 state. In the visitor centre a video (6min) explains the fort's role in the War of 1812 and the Rebellions of 1837. In the interpretation centre military displays include an example of Mackenzie's rebel flag.
