On the site of the former Bois de Cazier colliery, the 8 August 1956 memorial commemorates one of Belgium’s greatest mining disasters in which 262 miners died in a fire in the St-Charles mine. The museum of industry recalls Wallonia’s rich industrial heritage. Among the highlights are a 1913 Zimmerman-Hanrez steam engine and an 1883 sheet-metal mill, from the Anhée works. Changing rooms and showers evoke the miners’ lives.
