Mechlin : The Michelin guide review
Numerous palaces, monuments and historic houses lining the squares and quaysides of the River Dijle bear witness to Mechelen’s rich past. Its historic centre is dominated by the St Rombout Tower with its famous bells. The traditional industry of tapestry manufacture remains alive and well here, and Mechelen is also an important furniture-making centre, although brewing is the real epicentre of commercial life. The area is also renowned for market gardening activities (asparagus, endives).
