La Louvière : The Michelin guide review
The Centre's main town lies near the Canal du Centre. This industrial town reach its zenith in the 19C, thanks to coal mining. It played an active role in the Belgian Surrealist Movement, when the poet Achille Chavée founded the Groupe Surréaliste du Hainaut in 1939. Also, Haine-St-Pierre, one of La Louvière's localities, was the birthplace of the sculptor Pol Bury in 1922.
