Cathedral star : The Michelin guide review

Begun in 1352 and not completed until 1521, the finest building in Antwerp (and Belgium’s largest) is remarkable for its stylistic homogeneity. A masterpiece of richness and lightness, one of its two towers rises to 123m (the other was never finished). The vast interior contains several masterpieces, including works by Rubens, which complement the majesty of the surroundings. Restoration work has revealed vestiges of a Romanesque church and wall paintings of the 15C and 16C.
