Founded by Rudolf IV in 1365, it is the oldest German speaking university after Prague. It has been situated on the Ring for over a century and the building dates from 1884. Its neo-Renaissance style construction is in keeping with the principles applied to buildings on the Ring. The Renaissance style is a symbol of a dynamic period where people were avid to acquire new knowledge.
