The Hofburg: Armoury
: The Michelin guide review
This rich collection of arms and armour was begun in the early 15C by the Archdukes Ernest of Styria (1377-1424) and Ferdinand of Tyrol (1527-1595), and capped by the inclusion of the Imperial Court’s arms in 1806. The ingenious filigree decoration of the suits of armour, helmets and saddles are also a reflection of Europe’s history. Exceptional pieces include the «costume armour» of Duke Albert of Brandenbourg, made in around 1526 and the ceremonial armour of Alessandro Farnese.
