The imposing Heldenplatz is flanked on two sides by the Hofburg, followed by Amalia Palace, the Leopold Wing, the Hall of Ceremonies and the Congress Centre, linked to the huge fan-shaped façade of the Neue Burg or New Palace. Another palace was originally supposed to be built on the opposite side, forming an immense Imperial forum. In the meantime, the Empire disappeared.
