This small quarter in the heart of the old town is composed of a series of squares steeped in history. The name of the largest of these, the «Am Hof» (Court), refers to the Ducal Court of the Babenbergs who resided here in the 12C. A few traces of the ancient Roman camp, Vindobona, are still visible at no 9. Up to the 15C, tournaments were held in this square which has always been one of the liveliest in the city.
